At Least One Person Confirmed Dead as 8-Storey Building Collapses in Owerri

At least one (1) person has been confirmed dead at the site of a building collapse at Umaru Musa Yaradua Drive, Owerri, the Imo state capital this evening.

An official statement is yet to be released by the government and first responders on the sad occurrence.

The blockworks for the eight-storey building which was still under construction was said to have been started barely two-months ago before its collapse this evening.

Already, up to five (5) other persons who sustained injuries from the collapse have been taken to the hospital while first responders continue to search for more victims buried under the rubble.

In 2019 alone, Nigeria recorded 43 cases of building collapse, according to a report.
