#HEALTHTALK 03: On Breakfast and Why it's Really Important

Humans are subject to three meals a day. This knowledge birthed their eating time table in a day and formed the base for any nutritional intervention.

There are three important meals in a day. The first is breakfast. The second meal of the day is lunch and the third important meal is dinner.

The three meals are important because they all play a part in your body metabolism (i.e, all the chemical reactions involved in maintaining the living state of the cells in your body). Without good food, body cells would start to die at some point.

Among the three meals, breakfast is the most skipped meal, often due to time factor. We often have to leave for work very early, and the children also need to get to school early too.

But breakfast is the meal we use to kick-start body metabolism daily. It's that much important.

Did you know that your body goes into fasting every night, and when you wake up, the body needs to break the fast in order to replenish the lost blood sugar your muscles and brain needs to function?

When you wake up in the morning, your sugar level is usually lower. This is why in medicine, your fasting blood sugar level is often the best parameter for making diagnoses, especially for diabetes.

Why do people skip breakfast?
Most people often have little time in the mornings to do their morning routines. Before they can finish getting ready to leave the house to meet up early with work, school, meetings, or to catch a flight, bus, train, etc, there's little or no more time left to sit and have breakfast first. So they just skip it.

Dieting and weight loss exercises can also be a reason to skip meals.

Also, breakfast is skipped because of religious activities like fasting.
